Selection of hospitals for hospital vistis

Selection process

Based on analysis of the responses to the survey, the team at the University of Amsterdam have defined a framework for selecting 105 hospitals for site visits. The distribution is not even among the participating countries.

Several criteria were taken into account in order to define the sample for hospitals to be visited:

Country

External mechanism for quality improvement: 3 different groups.

Internal quality activities and structure: 3 groups

Types of hospitals (public / private, teaching / non teaching)

An exclusion criteria was used in the selction methodology as well. Hospitals that did not fill out section 1 (introduction to the hospital) and at least 1 of the 3 pathologies included in the questionnaire: appendicitis, acute myocard infarct and maternity were excluded.

Based on these criteria and the preliminary results of the questionnaire that we have obtained, the number of hospitals that will be visited in each country is:

France: 21

Spain: 30

Poland: 15

Check Republic: 15

Ireland: 8

Belgium: 6

U.K.: 6

Netherlands: 4
