Hospital Questionnaire

Web address

The MARQuIS questionnaire can be found at www.marquisquestionnaire.nl. Only hospitals that participate in the research of the project will be able to access the actual questionnaire by entering a login and password.

Login and password

An email with the login and password for accessing the questionnaire has been send to all hospitals that are currently participating in the MARQuIS questionnaire. Most hospitals did receive their details the last week of March, some others followed in April.

The Questionnaire was officially launched on 4 April 2006. All hospitals received a reminder that they could start filling in the questionnaire with the login and password that was given to them.

Deadline for Questionnaire

The deadline for completing the questionnaire has been set at 15 May 2006.
Hospitals who return the completed questionnaire will receive individual feedback later this year. The participating hospitals will receive a reminder mentioning this deadline in the coming weeks.

Participating hospitals

Hospitals from the eight different participating countries (Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Ireland, Poland, Spain, The Netherlands, United Kingdom) have been approached to participate in the MARQuIS research. So far, almost 500 hospitals have been given a login and password. The MARQuIS consortium is pleased to see that a large amount of them have already started to fill in (parts of) the questionnaire.

Purpose of the questionnaire

The purpose of this questionnaire is to describe the situation in European hospitals with respect to quality management and the compliance with quality requirements.
For this purpose the questionnaire asks questions about quality management strategies and activities in the participating hospitals divided over 4 sections:
1. Quality management at hospital wide and hospital service level;
2. Quality assurance of the management of patients with an acute myocardial infarction (AMI);
3. Quality assurance of the management of patients suffering from acute appendicitis;
4. Quality assurance and deliveries.

For each section, the hospitals are requested to involve the ‘right’ person in completing this questionnaire. The following leaders are assumed to be most knowledgeable to fill out the questionnaire:
1. Section 1: Hospital CEO or senior quality manager
2. Section 2: Medical leader/manager of the cardiology services (head of division, departmental, unit)
3. Section 3: Medical leader/manager of surgical services
4. Section 4: Medical leader/manager of obstetrical services.

Clarification of term quality improvement strategies'

The term 'quality improvement strategies' is used throughout this questionnaire. This brings together quality assurance, quality control and quality management approaches to improving health care systems under the broad term of 'quality improvement'.

Caution

Please note that the research is about EU patients. We know that you perhaps take patients from other foreign patients (non EU) that have different needs. Please focus your answers, when applicable, only in EU patients. Thank you.

Analysis of research

The information that you provide will be (statistically) analyzed with data from other hospitals in order to complete a European perspective of national quality management with regards to cross-border patient care.

Thank you for you participation

The MARQuIS consortium thanks all participating hospitals in advance for spending their valuable time on this research.
