The MARQuIS team welcomes all readers to this third issue of the MARQuIS newsletter. This newsletter is issued on a three months basis and provides a short overview of the main developments in the project with links to more information on the MARQuIS-website: www.marquis.be.

Publications since last newsletter

Two reports have been submitted to the European Commission since the last issue of this newsletter, the report ‘Health care quality strategies in Europe’ and the report on ‘Identification of quality requirements’. These reports have been used for the construction of the questionnaire on quality systems that has been sent to the participating hospitals and which constitutes the next part of the research. Health care quality strategies in Europe

The research for this report has been led by project partners from the Centre for Public Policy and Management, at the Manchester Business School. The key objective has been to bring together for the first time in a comparable and analytic form, data on quality improvement policies and strategies in member states. More information…

Identification of quality requirements

The MARQuIS team conducted a study that aimed to identify the requirements of patients, professionals and financers when seeking/providing care abroad. More information…

Work of country coordinators

The activities of the country coordinators of the eight countries have been substantial during the last months. Preparations had to be made for the implementation phase of the project that consitute a questionnaire on hospital quality initiatives and how these help to meet the needs of cross-border patients. Hospital Questionnaire

Around 500 hospitals participating in the MARQuIS research have been given a login and password to start fillling in the Marquis questionnaire at More information....

Virtual MARQuIS Network

At the same time of the launch of the Questionnaire, the Virtual MARQuIS Netwrok has been launched at www.marquis.be/hospitals. This is a protected website where the participating hospitals can meet and discuss. After logging in hospitals can discuss topics, share files and search for other hospitals. More information…
